0581 Book: British Army Badges
Not Bromyard, I know, but a true collector's book.
BRITISH ARMY BADGES
By: Lieutenant-Colonel Robin Hodges
This stunning 540 Page High Quality Harback Book ( With coloured Dust Jacket ) was privately published by Sthe Author in 2005 and is illustrated in Colour throughout.
1st edition
If you only buy one book on British Army badges, then look no further than this book. On looking at just the listing page it looks expensive, but it IS worth every single penny. It should be noted that this is a HUGE size book.
The book covers all British Army badges up to 2005. All badges are in full colour, and cover anything and everything including the ordinary cap badges through to musicians badges, and all yeomanry, Officer Training Corps and cadets. Each badge is listed with measurements and in most cases the materials they are made from, ie: silver plate, gilt, bullion etc. Each regiment and unit has a small paragraph of information on it, and there are sub paragraphs containing other historical and interesting facts about regiments, use of insignia and ranking systems. The latter is very helpful in making clear the strange absence of Sergeants in the Household Cavalry and the absence of Corporals in the Footguards.
If you're a collector of badges then this book is THE book to own. I am often referring to the book to identify badges and to judge the authenticity of supposed "genuine issue" items on eBay. Although this book doesn't cover any of the newly formed regiments, such as the Rifles or the Mercian regiment, there are plans for an updated version in about 2010. For the militaria enthusiast and collector this is the perfect reference book to own.
